Medication assistance and other support when you do not have prescription-drug coverage.

Where to start

If you do not have prescription-drug coverage, start with the support program for the medication you were prescribed. Many manufacturers operate patient-assistance programs that may provide medication at reduced or no cost to eligible uninsured or underinsured patients.

Eligibility varies and may depend on diagnosis, prescription, residency, income, insurance status and other requirements.

Independent nonprofit organizations and healthcare systems may also have programs for treatment costs, insurance navigation, medical bills or other financial needs. Not every charitable copay foundation serves uninsured patients, so check eligibility before applying.

Tell your care team if cost is a barrier

Do not wait until a prescription is ready to ship to say that you cannot afford it. Your prescriber’s office, medication support program, pharmacy, social worker or financial navigator may know about patient-assistance programs, alternate coverage options or other resources.
